Equal pay

Summary:

The time has come to talk about equal pay. Why do we still need to bring this topic into companies?

According to IBGE data from 2022, the wage gap between men and women working in the same jobs reaches 22%. When we look at black women, this reality is even worse, reaching a 40% wage gap with white men in the same position. On the one hand, women are the most represented gender in the country's universities, but on the other they are not as highly valued in the job market.

And how is the global scenario on this issue?

The World Bank found that 51% of the countries in the world have enacted laws requiring wage parity. This does not mean that we have yet seen the full results of these laws, as they depend on their implementation, inspection and punishment for companies that do not comply with the laws. Following this movement to move forward on the issue, a new wage equalization law was passed this week in Brazil, and what changes does this mean?

From then on, companies will have to submit a salary transparency report, which will be audited. Companies that fail to comply with the law can be fined up to 10 times the salary of the discrepancy when proven.

A new law, and more than that the length of the inspection, brings greater control over the transparency of companies with regard to this parity. But we still need to talk about sensitizing and raising awareness of gender issues in companies, because parity is the first step, but there is still a lot of progress to be made if we are to achieve healthier environments for women and more equality for everyone.
